Christian Education at Central Presbyterian Church
Central Presbyterian offers Sunday School September through May, from 9:45-10:45 am and multi-generational classes June-August. Everyone is always welcome!
Sunday School — Children and Youth
CPC has Infant and Toddler child care rooms for our youngest children.
The two elementary Sunday School classes follow a Workshop Rotation model. Our younger class - the Geese - includes children in Pre-K through 1st Grade. Children in 2nd through 5th Grades are in the Honeybees class. These classes meet together at 9:45 in our Gathering Room for an opening prayer and lesson review before being led by their Shepherds to the week's workshop. Workshops include Drama and Storytelling, Music, Art, Cooking and Games. Sunday School ends at 10:45.
Children aged 5-11 are encouraged to participate in our Children's Choir.
There are two Youth Sunday School classes: 6th and 7th Grade and 8th through 12th Grade. The Youth meet with the elementary classes for an opening prayer at 9:45 and then disperse to their own classrooms.
The offering collected in Sunday School is used to make purchases through Heifer International. The Elementary classes buy Geese and Honeybees, respectively, and the Youth are collecting toward a Llama.
Sunday School — Adults (Adult Christian Education)
Adult Christian Education classes are offered every Sunday at 9:45 am during the school year.
Social Issues Class
Led by Jim Beckett and Kim Johnson, identifies topics of
interest and coordinates guest speakers and other resources to aid in
their discussions.
The class meets in Room 103, located in the hallway near the Brazos Street entrance.
Lectionary Class
Each Sunday, the Lectionary Class examines the Scripture passages for
that day. These lively discussions are facilitated by Jim Newman and
David Duncan.
The class meets in Room 201, the Leavy Library.
Young Adults
College age or older? Join this group to explore Christianity and life
in the 21st century.
The class meets in Room 303 and is facilitated by Joseph Moore.
Women's Circles
Presbyterian Women in the Congregation (PWC) are organized into small groups, called circles, that meet regularly to provide an inclusive, caring community of women. Circles are an integral part of Presbyterian Women (PW) and are encouraged to use PW resources to strengthen and enrich the community of faith. If you are a woman looking for informal study and fellowship consider joining us.
- Circle 1 meets throughout the year at 9:00 am on the third Saturday of the month in the Leavy Library at CPC.
- Circle 2 meets at 7:30 pm September through May on the second Thursday of the month at Circle member's homes.
- Circle 3 meets at 10:00 am September through May on the second Tuesday of the month at Circle member's homes.
Circles 2 & 3 use the denomination's Horizons Bible study. Updated yearly, the study provides ideas, information and inspiration for Presbyterian Women.
Vacation Bible School (VBS)
Vacation Bible School is a highlight of the summer for the children, as well as for the youth and adult volunteers. VBS is a traditional destination for our younger children. In 2006 the children traveled “Around the USA in Five Days” - to learn about how the church is living out its purpose beyond our country's borders. Through song, food, crafts, and bible stories, the children learned that God's love and grace is for everyone. CCYM members typically serve as group leaders during vacation bible school.
Youth Activities (CCYM)
Central Presbyterian's Middle school and high school students take part in fellowship Sunday afternoons, led by Elizabeth Stoddard & Sarah James. CCYM (Central Cornerstone Youth Ministries) participates in service projects and outings. Twice monthly meetings are held during the school year on Sunday afternoon from Noon-2:00 p.m, immediately after Worship.
These meetings are supplemented by activities including retreats, service projects, movie nights, and parties. Our youth also participate with other Presbyterian youth groups in local and national activities.

Wednesday Evening Programs
During the school year, Wednesday evening is an opportunity to gather for education and fellowship. Dinner begins in the fellowship hall at 5:45 p.m. At 6:30 p.m., children are dismissed for play time together or to attend Children's Choir rehearsals. The adults participate in a 45-minute session featuring guest speakers and a variety of topics. During special times of the year such as Lent and Advent, special worship services are held on these evenings.
Special time will be held for the Jr. High students, and younger children will have fun with our great nursery staff. A highlight will be the Christmas Children's Program and tamale dinner, a time of delight for everyone.
Please see our online calendar for the complete schedule of
upcoming Wednesday Evening programs.
